Pam Hennings grew up in Iowa, but during college visited her birthplace
of Seoul, Korea. That renewed Jenning's interest in her heritage and
led to her applying with the Iowa Asian Alliance after graduation.
Now
she's their administrative assistant, working to build membership and
acting as liasion for the Alliance's eastern chapter. On Friday the
Iowa Asian Alliance holds its AdmirAsian Achievement Awards at Prairie
Meadows to reward community members.
There is a reception and
awards ceremony from 5-9 p.m. with dinner and keynote speaker Jimmy D.
Lee. Tickets are $100. DJ Episode spins at the community dance from 9
p.m.-midnight. Tickets for the dance are $10.
LIVES An apartment downtown with a roommate.
MUSIC I like pretty much anything with a good beat or message. I don't like country, but I have a secret love for hip hop.
MOVIES I love chick flicks.
TV "Project Runway." My roommate was a fashion design major.
RESTAURANTS I'm
biased toward the places nearby, like Azalea and Zen. Centro and Grand
Piano Bistro have some good stuff. Star Bar is great, and I love sushi
and Thai food.
BARS People's was a staple at college, so I'm supporting them in Des Moines. I always seem to end up at Liars Club.
READING I read a lot of historical fiction. I try to find books that are fun to read, but I can still learn something.
FREE TIME Our sorority house had a cook, so I'm spending a lot of time cooking things for myself.
FUTURE PLANS
I would like to go to law school, and I dream of someday owning my own
restaurant. I like the idea of an eclectic menu utilizing local produce
and wineries.
